India’s growing plastic problem seems to find a solution in the construction of roads in cities like Chennai, Pune, Jamshedpur and Indore.
And Lucknow is the latest to join other Indian cities in constructing roads using plastic waste, as reported by ANI.
According to reports, the road will be constructed from Gomti Nagar Police Station to IIM Lucknow under a pilot project by Lucknow Development Authority.
Talking to ANI, Chief Engineer, LDA, Indushekhar Singh said:
“Mixing plastic waste increases roads’ durability by 40-50%, they will be durable for a longer time. Around 8-10 per cent of plastic waste is being mixed in coal tar. On world environment day, we had declared that we will use plastic in road construction in future.”
He also stressed on the advantages of using plastic for the construction of roads.

It is indeed a welcome step to control the menace caused by plastic waste in the recent times.
