Manish Sisodia & 65 AAP MLAs Arrested During Protest March Against PM Modi

Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia and over 65 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs were detained by Delhi Police on Sunday while they were undertaking a protest march towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence at 7 RCR to “surrender”, reports Indian Express

This “surrender” was a result of the president of the Ghazipur Vegetable Market Association complaining against Sisodia for allegedly intimidating businessmen. The Deputy Chief Minister in retaliation decided to march to 7 RCR and surrender.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted out the news while also attaching the complaint letter.

The decision to hold a protest march and surrender seems to be fueled by the arrest of AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya on Saturday on charges of molestation and sexual harassment amid high drama when he was addressing a press conference, triggering an angry reaction from Kejriwal who accused the Prime Minister of declaring an “emergency” in Delhi.

Before being arrested, Sisodia to the press in New Delhi, “We will all go and surrender ourselves to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. There is an attempt by the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) to stop the AAP government from working,” reports The Times Of India

Meanwhile, Section 144 has been imposed at 7 RCR and the Race Course metro station has been temporarily shut down.

On the alleged threatening, Sisodia defended himself by saying, “I Went to Ghazipur mandi yesterday (Saturday) and saw some people indulging in illegal practices. I warned them if they continue I’ll get their license cancelled,” reports ANI.

He went on to add that they are alleging “misbehaviour” for the “scolding” and asserted that If he saw anyone indulging in illegal practices, he’ll scold them.
