14 People Feared Dead in Massive Landslide in Arunachal Pradesh, Rescue Operations On

Fourteen people are feared dead in a massive landslide triggered by incessant rains in Arunachal Pradesh’s Papum Pare district on Tuesday, a senior official said.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner Jalash Pertin, chances of any survivor are dim, adding that rescue operation is on.

According to the PTI report, he said three dwellings in Laptap village were hit by the landslide around 3.30 PM. 

Papum Pare has been receiving rains for the past four days.

In an earlier report, officials said that major rivers in the state are flowing above the danger level while surface communication was disrupted at many places along the NH-415 that links Assam with Arunachal Pradesh.

A three-year-old child was washed away near police colony in Itanagar on Sunday evening and her body was later fished out. Road transport within the city was disrupted for a long time due to landslides near Civil Secretariat in Itanagar, Capital Complex district disaster management officer Moromi Sonam was quoted earlier.

Landslides also occurred near Dree ground, 6 Kilo and other spots on Naharlagun-Itanagar road and workers of disaster management authority, PWD, police, NDRF and SDRF were repairing the damage, officials said.

The other affected districts included Papum Pare, West Siang and Tawang.
