Move Aside Dhoni, Virat Kohli Is The Highest Paid Cricketer In The IPL

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released a list of salary figures of IPL players and Virat Kohli has emerged as the highest paid cricketer in the league. The India Test skipper will be paid Rs 15 crore (USD 2.26 million) by his franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was thought to be the highest paid, will be paid Rs 12.5 crore by the Pune franchise.

The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group-owned Pune franchise bought Dhoni in a draft of players who were part of the suspended Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals franchises. Shikhar Dhawan of Sunrisers Hyderabad will also get the same amount as Dhoni.

The minimum amount that a franchise is required to spent is Rs 40 crore (USD 6 million) but not more than Rs 66 crore (USD 9.96 million) on their squad. But while retaining the players, the purse-deduction slots are considered for the purpose of calculation of what it can and should spend.
