Mumbai folks, you won’t have to head all the way to Kerala to enjoy a houseboat because Maharashtra is soon going to get its own houseboats between the waters of Marve-Manori and Gorai.

Yes, it’s true!

Maharashtra Maritime Board has granted permission to the Gorai Machchimar Sahakari Sanstha to operate houseboats in the creeks along Mumbai’s coast.

The Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) has received a total of 11 proposals from coastal districts to set up houseboats.

A senior officer of the MMB said, “Like in Kerala, we want to promote houseboats in the backwaters of Maharashtra too. Houseboats already operate at Tarkarli in Sindhudurg district and are a big hit with tourists,” reported TOI.

If reports are to be believed, it’s going to be a breathtaking adventure as people enjoying their stay in houseboats will be taken through the creeks and shown beautiful mangroves. The government has all the plans to implement the scheme in an environment-friendly way.

Not only this, in a first of its kind initiative, the MMP also has plans to launch water sports facilities at Juhu, Versova, Aksa, Marve, Manori, Gorai, Ghodbunder, Bhayandar and Vasai.

These fun activities include kayaking, banana rides, water scooters and speed boats.
