Four boys from the northern suburb of Malad in Mumbai have been arrested for raping a classmate, recording it and circulating the video on an instant messaging app. All five, including the victim, are class 10 students.
India Today reports that one of the boys called the girl to his house in the same residential colony for help with studies. However, when she reached there, the boy and three others raped the girl and recorded the incident.
The girl did not reveal the incident since she had been threatened by the boys that they would circulate the video.
However, one of the boys circulated the clip in WhatsApp and it happened to reach the girl’s aunt.
It was only when she confronted her niece, that the girl revealed her ordeal and she was encouraged to file a case. An FIR has been registered against the boys, who have been sent to a home for juveniles, since they are all minors.
