Recently, Kamal Haasan had remarked that India’s first terrorist was Nathuram Godse. It drew sharp reactions from several political parties, who claimed he was using ‘divisive politics’.

Haasan, while addressing a rally in Tamil Nadu, had remarked

Free India’s first extremist was a Hindu, his name is Nathuram Godse. There it (extremism, apparently) starts.

Adding to the fire, Malegaon bomb blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Thakur joined the list of people who condemned Haasan’s remarks.

Hindustan Times

As per a report from India Today, Pragya Thakur, reacting to Kamal Haasan’s comments said –

Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt, is a deshbhakt and will remain a deshbhakt. People calling him a terrorist should instead look within. Such people will be given a befitting reply in these elections.

Reacting to the controversy, Haasan said,

What I said is a historic fact. It’s quoted out of context. How can I target a religion? I challenge you to show one instance of me inciting discord.

Sadhvi Pragya Thakur had previously courted controversy for her statements on slain ATS chief Hemant Karkare, drinking cow urine to cure breast cancer, etc.

GVL Narasimha Rao of the BJP later said the party does not agree with this statement.

She is currently out on bail in the 2008 Malegaon Bombings case.
