Amid continuing uproar on the issue of freedom of expression in the country, Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni today called for respect to the armed forces, saying that the nation is in a position to debate because of the men in uniform.

Dhoni holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Indian Territorial Army.

His comments come in the backdrop of a raging debate on freedom of expression after an event against the hanging of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus where anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
