National Award Winning Film ‘Court’ Is India’s Official Entry To The Oscars

National award winning Marathi film Court has been selected as India’s official entry to the 88th Oscars to be held in 2016, in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The low budget drama which comments on India’s judicial system has been appreciated as one of the best films of the recent times. Court, which is director Chaitanya Tamhane’s debut film won the National Award for Best Picture this year. It has also been also honoured with 17 international awards after it premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in 2014.

Inspired by the real life story of folk singer Jiten Marandi, who got framed in a criminal case after a bomb blast, the film criticises the justice delivery system, and how it affects the life of a common man.
