In the latest in a series of attacks on African nationals living in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, a 20-year-old Kenyan woman was attacked by a taxi driver and has been admitted to hospital.
The woman, Maria Burendi, received abdominal injuries and had to be put on oxygen support, Presidoe Okuguni of the Association Of African Students in India, informed ScoopWhoop News via a Whatsapp text.
She was admitted to Greater Noida’s Kailash Hospital.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the victim was assaulted by the driver of the taxi she had been travelling in. It was allegedly an unprovoked assault.
As per Presidoe, a police team led by the SHO of Kasna Police Station had been present with the girl along with members of the Association when she was taken to the hospital for treatment.
However, according to the HT report, no FIR has yet been filed.
This is the latest in a series of unprovoked attacks on African nationals living in Greater Noida. The string of violence started after the death of 18-year-old Manish Kaira, who died on Saturday of an alleged drug overdose. Locals blamed some Nigerian nationals for giving him drugs, and even accused some of them of abduction, murder and cannibalism.

At least 11 African Nationals have allegedly been attacked since Saturday.
