NRI Arrested After Crashing His SUV Into Wagah Border Gates

An allegedly intoxicated NRI crashed his SUV into the security gates at Attari joint check post in the early hours of Sunday morning and reached the zero line at the International Border of India- Pakistan in Punjab before he was arrested.

The SUV came to a halt after the car crashed into the border gate on the Pakistani side.

The vehicle was seized by Pakistani officials, but they later returned it to the India’s Border Security Force.

The man behind the wheel has been identified as 42-year-old Surinder Singh Kang, who lives in Canada, but hails from Jalandhar. He was arrested by the BSF, a senior official told India Today .

An official said that they had recovered medication for him that was reportedly used for ‘mind relaxation’.

Kang has been booked under provisions of the Indian Penal Code for attempt to murder and under sections of the Passport Act.

The BSF defended its decision to not fire on the vehicle despite it breaking through the gates and said that it had ordered an inquiry into the incident to prevent something like this from taking place again, reported The Indian Express.
