A Whopping 1.45 Crore People Were Caught On Indian Railways Travelling Without Tickets

A total of 145.76 lakh people were caught travelling without tickets in trains till January this financial year as against 165.43 lakh in the last fiscal, Lok Sabha was told today.

Railways have realised Rs 660.22 crore as fine from the ticketless passengers till January in the current financial year as against Rs 727.45 crore in the last year, Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha said in a written reply.

He said railways conducts regular and surprise checks against ticketless travellers which are intensified during the rush periods. Railways have taken various measures to prevent ticketless travel.

It has also enhanced use of technology to facilitate issuing of tickets on faster mode to curb ticketless journey on account of non availability of tickets.
