In a shocking incident of ragging in a college hostel, a Dalit nursing student has been admitted to a hospital after she was forced to consume toilet cleaner by her seniors. The girl who is a native of Edappal in Mallappuram, Kerala, is now admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital (KMCH) where her condition is said to be critical.

The incident happened last month on May 9 when the first semester nursing student studying at Al Qamar College of Nursing at Gulbarga, Karnataka, was allegedly ragged by a group of eight senior girl students. As they forced her to consume toilet cleaner, she was taken to a private hospital in Gulbarga. However, her condition worsened and the college authorities decided to send her back to Kerala.

Her relatives then took her to Thrissur Medical College Hospital and after two day long treatment there she was further shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital on June 2. According to a report by The Times of India, a major part of her throat has been damaged due to the consumption of the toilet cleaner. The doctors have suggested a six-month treatment before carrying out a surgery.

According to a report by Deccan Chronicle, the girl belongs to a poor family and had joined the college after taking an education loan from Kerala Gramin Bank (KGB). Her relatives have accused that the girl has been ragged on previous occasions as well.

Her parents have also alleged that the Gulbarga police were hesitant to file a complaint and the college authorities did not take any action against the accused, reports Manorama Online.
