Nooruddin Ali, 51, a cab driver in capital Delhi was allegedly beaten up by a group of African nationals following an altercation in the wee hours of Monday morning near Mehrauli, reported News18

The injured cab driver who was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre was discharged after proper treatment was provided to him. He thanked the Delhi police for helping him in the situation and hopes to get justice.

The incident took place after a group of six African nationals, four men and two women, booked a taxi through Ola app at 4 am for travelling from Dwarka to Rajpur. When the cab driver objected to carry more than four passengers, it led into an argument between the two sides and the African nationals later thrashed Ali for refusing to take them all onboard.

“Since six people, four men and two women of African origin, wanted to board the car, the cab driver objected, citing restrictions on carrying more than four passengers. The group then allegedly thrashed him,” a senior Delhi Police officer told Hindustan Times.

Five among the six managed to escape from the spot, but the cab driver somehow managed to stop one woman who claims to be from Rwanda. Police is now verifying her credentials since she is not carrying any documents.

This incident comes in the backdrop of a series of racist attacks in Delhi on people from African countries.

Recently, six African nationals were attacked in separate incidents in Delhi. The police had on Sunday arrested four people in connection with the alleged assault on the African nationals in Mehrauli.

Earlier, a 23-year-old Congolese national was beaten to death by a group of locals in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area.
