Baba Ramdev Slammed For Developing A Medicine That ‘Promises’ Male Child

The opposition was up in arms in the Rajya Sabha demanding a ban on an Ayurveda product by yoga guru, Baba Ramdev that allegedly ensures a birth of a son. A special medicine has been developed by Ramdev’s Divya Pharmacy, that guarantees birth of a male child as was discussed in the Parliament on Thursday, April 30.

The matter was brought to light by JD-U MP KC Tyagi. He held up a packet of ‘Putrajeevak Beej’, which he claimed was bought from Divya Pharmacy. He also had with him the purchase receipt dated April 14.

The opposition called it illegal and unconstitutional and asked for immediate and stringent action against the manufacturers.

By referring to Ramdev as the “brand ambassador of Haryana”, Tyagi asked “if the government of India under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi approves of this.”

Sex selection in India, through medication or pre-natal sex determination is illegal and unconstitutional.

Several other members joined in condemning the sale of this product, including MP Jaya Bachchan.

Health Minister, J Nadda, said, “the government will look into it and proper action will be taken.” Nadda mentioned how serious the government is on sex ratio and that PM Modi was personally monitoring the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign.

One can only hope this is not where scientific discovery is headed in India.
