First created back in 1894 by John Harvey Kellogg as a healthy and deliberately bland cereal, corn flakes was supposed to be a part of an extreme diet, which was promoted by the Church at that point of time.

It was aimed at suppressing passion and curbing sexual impulses of that generation, specifically a step to curb the growing modernity in the early 1900s.

Missed In History

Being a Seventh-Day Adventist (a branch of Christianity), Kellogg advocated a strict vegetarian diet and was against alcohol, caffeine or meat.

In addition, Kellogg believed sex and masturbation were unhealthy and abnormal.

Now you know, corn flakes were simply invented to stop people from masturbating.

Daily Telegraph

Writing a book titled Plain Facts for Old and Young: Embracing the Natural History and Hygiene of Organic Life, Kellogg stood by his principles and tried out ways to curb sexual impulses in people, including creating corn flakes.

It is believed that his original recipe contained no sugar and that’s why we are sure it wasn’t even half as good as it is today.

Probably a bland-age, that one.
