Pakistan, Bangladesh Jump On India’s WC Exit To Sing Mauka Mauka. At Least We Got To The Semis!

The mauka mauka advertisement campaign run by Star Sports seems to have backfired at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after Indian team lost to Australia by 95 runs in the semi-final of ICC World Cup, 2015 on Thursday.

A day after India’s exit, Bangladesh and Pakistan cricket fans launched a telephonic battle at BCCI, breaking into a mauka mauka rendition each time the call was received at BCCI headquarters.

A minimum of 200 phone calls were made to make fun of India’s loss.

As per a report by The Indian Express , every time someone received a call, the callers started singing, “ Mauka mauka! Kya hua mauke ka? (What happened to the opportunity)?”

The advertisement is based on a popular jinx that Pakistan has never beaten India in a World Cup match. The ad which declared the World Cup as ‘India vs The Rest Of The World’, has a protagonist who being a Pakistan fan supports every other team that India played against this World Cup, and in the background a mauka mauka qawwali is played.

If you have been living under a rock and haven’t seen it, watch it here.

“The BCCI office number is available on our website. These over-zealous people were simply happy that India lost. They pulled a prank on us but after a point it got really irritating. The advertisement was popular but I didn’t expect it to come back at us like this,” a BCCI staff member told The Indian Express .

“We got the telephone company to trace the origin of these calls. A large number of them were from Bangladesh, while the rest were from Pakistan,” the BCCI staff member said.

Finally the BCCI authority had to disconnect the telephone line.

“This is the first time we have received calls from outside the country to mock the Indian team’s performance,” the staff said.

Seems like the counterparts have well utilised a mauka !
