17-Year-Old Girl Found Dead In College Hostel In Rajasthan, Teacher Accused Of Rape, Murder

A physical trainer and instructor was arrested for allegedly raping and killing a Dalit girl in the hostel of their college in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district.

The body of the 17-year-old girl was found in a water tank on Tuesday morning following which her parents lodged a complaint against trainer Vijendra Singh accusing him of raping and killing the girl, police said.

Police have registered an FIR against Singh, warden Shukla and owner of the institute Ishwar Chand under sections dealing with murder, rape, destruction of evidence of Indian Penal Code along with sections of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on them.

The girl’s body was handed over to her parents and cremated at Trimohi village on Friday. The minor belonged to Barmer district and had travelled all the way to Bikaner to become pursue a course in teaching.

“It was alleged that the girl was raped in the hostel room of Vijendra on Monday night and later her body was found in the tank. She was pursuing a Basic School Training Certificate course from the private college in Nokha,” the police said. 

According to a report in Hindustan Times, Nokha MLA and leader of opposition Rameshwar Dudi raised the issue in the Assembly on Friday, following which Home minister Gulab Chand Kataria assured a fair probe.
