Well known TV personality, Alka Kaushal and her mother have been sentenced to two years of jail term for a cheque bounce case by Sangrur court in Punjab, on Wednesday.

Popular for her roles in Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Queen and TV soaps like Qubool Hai and Swarigini, the actress had borrowed Rs 50 lakh from a farmer Avtar Singh, based in Langrian village to apparently make a serial.

When asked to return the money, the actress handed over two cheques of Rs 25 lakh each. The cheques, however, bounced, informed Avtar’s advocate Sukhbir Singh Punia to Hindustan Times

“When Avtar asked Alka to give back her money, he got 2 cheques of 25 lakhs each. But they got bounced. After that Avtar, filed a case against Alka and her mother in Malerkotla court,” Sukhbir Singh was quoted as saying in Amar Ujala

The farmer, who runs a floriculture business had befriended the actress during a shoot and lent her money.  Reports suggest that the money laundering case has been going on since 2015, first in Malerkotla court an then in Sangrur.

Back in 2015, both the accused managed to get a bail from the Malerkotla court which sentenced them to two years of jail term. However, their case was later upheld by Sangrur court where they filed for relief.
