Prime Minister Modi Becomes Most Followed Leader On Facebook

Completing three years of his government on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the most followed leader on Facebook globally surpassing even United States President Donald Trump, an Economic Times report says. 

As per the the data available with the newspaper, while PM Modi’s Facebook page tops the list of followers, his official page – PMO India – ranks third in terms of followers. 

Ankhi Das, Public Policy Director, Facebook India, South & Central Asia told the newspaper that Modi had 14 million fans on his Facebook page when he was elected Prime Minister of India in May 2014. That number has now grown to 41.9 million followers.

The data also shows union ministers Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, General VK Singh, Piyush Goyal and Arun Jaitley are the most followed after Modi in terms of interactions. In terms of ministries with highest interaction on Facebook, three ministries – Information and Broadcasting, ministry of external affairs and ministry of railways – have bagged top three spots, the ET report added. 

When it comes to government’s campaigns, Modi’s three signature initiatives Digital India, Make in India and Swachh Bharat saw the most interaction on social media, the data showed.
