Prime Minister Narendra Modi Launches ‘Fit India Movement’ On National Sports Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a new initiative in the form of the ‘Fit India Movement’ on Thursday, August 29, reports the Indian Express

The launch event was held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor stadium, New Delhi and saw the Prime Minister administer a fitness pledge on National Sports Day or Major Dhyan Chand’s birth anniversary.

Requesting people to participate whole-heartedly in the campaign, the Prime Minister had tweeted on August 25, saying: 

During today’s #MannKiBaat, I have made some requests to my fellow Indians: Visit iconic places relating to Bapu as a part of his 150th Jayanti. Travel to places related to nature and wildlife. Strengthen Poshan Abhiyan. Be a part of Fit India movement.

After his announcement, sports stars and celebrities echoed PM’s message about health and fitness. 

The Prime Minister ended by saying: 

Fitness is not just a word, it is a key requirement of a healthy and happy life.
