Meenu Katariya

An ex-Army officer, Retd. Major General SP Sinha has stirred a controversy by asking for “death in return for death, and rape in return for rape” to avenge atrocities against Kashmiri Pandits during their exodus from Kashmir in 1990.

He was speaking on a live debate on Hindi news channel TV9 Bharatvarsh.

His remarks invited instant criticism from fellow panelists as well as the anchor. They also asked him to apologise, but he stood firm on his remarks.

General Sinha was also criticised by fellow officers and people on Twitter for defaming the Indian Army.

In conversation with The Print, a senior army officer said that he is a retired officer and does not come under the purview of the Code of Conduct for serving personnel or the Army Act. He also said that veterans should be careful about their remarks as they carry the rank even after retirement.
