It’s 2019 and African American rapper, T.I casually quipped that he still accompanies his daughter to the gynaecologist to make sure that her hymen is still intact.

The revelation was made on a podcast called ‘Ladies Like Us’ on which the rapper had made a guest appearance, on Tuesday.

Washington Post

“Right after her birthday, we celebrate, then usually like the day after the party, she’s enjoying the gifts, I put a sticky note on the door: ‘Tomorrow. 9:30,’”, he said, explaining the trips to the gynaecologist, something that the rapper says began after his daughter’s 16th birthday.

He also admitted during the conversation that his daughter’s doctor required her to sign a waiver that allowed her father to see the results.

So we’ll go and sit down and the doctor will come and talk, and the doctor’s maintaining a high level of professionalism,” he says. “He’s like, ‘Well you know, sir, I have to, to share information’ — I’m like, ‘Deyjah, they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you would not want me to know? See, Doc? Ain’t no problem.’

The rapper also goes on to talk about how the doctor explained the other ways that the hymen can stretch – horse riding, biking, and other physical activities – to which, the rapper quipped:

‘Look doc — she don’t ride no horses, she don’t ride no bikes, she don’t play no sports, man — just check the hymen, please, and give me back my results expeditiously.

And then, he added this statement:

I will say, as of her 18th birthday, her hymen is still intact.

Once again, we live in the 21st centurt; nay, 2019. We’re advocating women’s rights to their own bodies. We’re advocating planned parenthood, consent, premarital sex without the gender debate and we’re advocating, more importantly, the end of virginity tests.

And we’re not the alone in thinking this is beyond just basic moral policing. Twitter had a lot of thoughts about this very disconcerting revelation by the rapper.

This tweet about sums it up though:

All in all, it’s 2019, let’s not legitimise something as regressive as virginity tests; especially in the name of parenthood.
