One of the greatest players in tennis history, Roger Federer, has added another feather to his cap—becoming the first man to win 300 matches. He beat Grigor Dimitrov in four sets (6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4) in the third round of the ongoing Australian Open today.
Federer, at 34, is a decade older than the 27th seed Grigor Dimitrov. He is also the oldest man to reach the round of 16 at the Australian Open since Andre Agassi played his way into the quarter-finals in 2005.
The tennis champion already has several records to his name.
- Federer is the only man to have won 17 Grand Slam titles
- He holds the all-time record of reaching each Grand Slam final at least five times.
- Currently ranked world No. 3, Federer had held the world No. 1 position for 302 weeks continuously.
- He’s reached the Wimbledon finals 10 times. He shares the record for most titles at Wimbledon with Pete Sampras (7) and at the US Open with Jimmy Connors and Sampras (5).
- He’s the first player to record 65+ wins at each Grand Slam tournament.
Federer now needs just another six wins to break Martina Navratilova’s all-time record of most Grand Slam matches wins (306).
