The Twitter world took to a Rajdeep Sardesai interview of Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani, like a moth to a flame. The term “Slaughtering Sardesai” began trending on the micro-blogging site, with hundreds of people using the term to poke fun at the journalist.
Rajdeep Sardesai interviewed Smriti Irani on Amethi’s food park, BJP’s Land Bill, Rahul Gandhi and a number of other issues. In the 25 minute interview, Irani chewed him up and spat him out, one issue at a time.
He questioned her on whether it was a political tactic from BJP to send her to Amethi the day Rahul Gandhi was speaking in the Parliament. To which she had a fitting reply, “it is possible that he knew I was going to Amethi and chose to speak on that day.”
She also put forth the very apt point that even though she may not be political royalty like her counterpart, she still deserves a level of respect. She asked Sardesai, why it cannot at all be possible, that Rahul Gandhi based his decision on her actions, instead of the other way around.
Sardesai was also persistant in his effort to get an answer on what the BJP and Smriti Irani think of Rahul Gandhi. Her views were very simple, his “comeback” is not important, and he has not affected the BJP in the slightest. “Why would I waste my time in seeing Rahul Gandhi”, was her response to Sardesai’s continuous probing. She also mentioned the fact that was glaring every viewer in the face, “Mr. Sardesai you are more fascinated by Rahul Gandhi than I am”.
