Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is in the middle of a controversy yet again. After being embroiled in the Yamuna floodplain row, his alleged comments on Malala Yousafzai and Nobel Peace Prize on Saturday has got him trending on Twitter.

The 59-year-old guru reportedly said:

I was in the past offered the Nobel Peace Prize, but I had rejected it as I only believe in working and not in being honoured for my work. We should always honour only to those who deserve it and I am totally against honouring Malala Yousafzai with the prize and it is of no use.

He made this statement when he was in Latur on Saturday to review the drought situation in Marathwada and was asked by a journalist whether he was interested in getting a Nobel price for peace.

So while the whole world cheers for Malala Yousafzai, Sri Sri’s displeasure about the matter was clearly apparent when he said:

What is the importance of an award when it is being presented to a 16 year old girl, without even looking at what she has contributed

However, Art of Living foundation has responded with the following tweet:

Twitter obviously took no time in ripping him apart, with almost no takers for Sri Sri’s ‘Nobel’ claims

Some wondered what this could set off:

For some the Yamuna controversy is still fresh

Some were just happy to call him out on his statement

Some feel he may prefer a desi award over an international one
