Over 700 Killed, 800 Injured In Stampede During Haj Pilgrimage In Saudi Arabia

In a major tragedy at least 700 people died in a stampede at the annual haj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. According to an NDTV report , the number of people injured in the incident is around 800.

The stampede has reportedly taken place outside the Muslim holy city of Mecca where some two million people are performing the annual haj pilgrimage, Saudi Arabia’s al-Ekhbariya television reported.

The stampede occurred on the first day of Eid al-Adha, or the feast of the sacrifice.

The Saudi civil defence said that 450 other people had been injured in the crush caused by large numbers of people pushing at Mina, outside Mecca.
