The Supreme Court today yet again refused to entertain a plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan by the Bombay High Court in the 2002 hit-and-run case.
“The order of Bombay High Court does not require interference,” a bench comprising justices FMI Kalifulla and Amitava Roy said. The bench was hearing a plea filed by Sushila Bai Himmat Rao Patil, through advocate Manohar Lal Sharma.
The plea has alleged that the Bombay High Court did not grant the relief to Patil whose son Ravindra Patil, the police bodyguard of Khan and a key witness in the 2002 hit-and-run case, had died under mysterious circumstances.
Besides seeking cancellation of Khan’s bail, the plea had sought a probe into Patil’s death. The apex court did not entertain the appeal filed against the high court order on the issue.
Earlier on August 31, the apex court had refused to entertain a similar plea filed by Sushila Bai Patil. On May 6, the actor was convicted of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and sentenced to five years imprisonment in the case but escaped being sent to jail after the Bombay High Court granted him interim bail till May 8.
On May 8, the high court suspended the 5-year sentence of Khan in the case and granted him bail pending his appeal against conviction.
