A year-long widespread celebration of Ambedkar’s 125th birthday on a grand scale has been ordered by CM Rao. He has also directed officials to organise a programme every month in the state.

The decision by the Telangana government to install the statue comes a few days after Andhra Pradesh made a similar announcement.

The announcement of erecting a statue of Ambedkar has come at a time when various other state governments have proposed similar monuments of various icons like Sardar Patel and Chhatrapati Shivaji.
