Lalit Modi’s lawyer Mehmood Abdi held a press conference on Monday, June 15 to clarify stance on the Sushma Swaraj- Lalit Modi travel controversy that stirred up recently. Abdi held that there is no scam and that it is being invented, emphasising that the issue is being blown out of proportion and that Lalit Modi was media’s favourite controversy child.
Lalit Modi is being investigated in a 454 crore money laundering case relating to earlier IPL editions. Modi took to Twitter on Monday evening slamming the media and the BJP assuring there will be a reveal-all press conference, while naming important politicians like Chidambaram, Salman Khurshid, Shashi Tharoor and the erstwhile PMO in his tweets.
“This is a political jamboree, people who are in political wilderness, vagabonds are trying to catch eyeballs,” his lawyer said in the press conference . He also added that no court has declared him a fugitive or an offender.
“Honourable foreign minister did not intervene, lived up to her duty to help any Indian outside the country who is in trouble. They are drawing parallel between Dawood Ibrahim and Lalit Modi. They have no sense of balance,” Modi’s lawyer Abdi said while addressing the press conference.

Calling it “ModiGate”, Rahul Gandhi accused Narendra Modi of “protecting” Lalit Modi and asked the Prime Minister to sack External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for her help to the former IPL Chairman in obtaining British travel documents. “It is not a question of Sushma ji resigning, PM Modi ji should sack Sushma Swaraj ji from the Govt,” Gandhi said on the hashtag #ModiGate on Twitter.
