Mysuru Pips Chandigarh To Top The ‘Swachh Bharat’ Rankings This Year

The Indian government announced the list of India’s cleanest cities today as a part of its Swachh Survekshan 2016 campaign, with the top three being Mysuru in Karnataka, Chandigarh and Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu.

Here is the list of top ten cities:

Compared to last year’s survey which took 476 cities in consideration, each with a population of above one lakh, this year’s survey is limited to only 73 cities which have at least 10 lakh residents. The procedure was altered to eliminate unfair comparisons to much smaller towns.

The top three winners of 2015 were Chandigarh, Mysuru and Surat (Gujarat)

The assessment was done after considering total sanitation practices, including the extent of open defecation, solid waste management, septage management, waste water treatment, drinking water quality, surface water quality of water bodies, and mortality due to water-borne diseases.
