While a large portion of the nation is reeling under severe water crisis, there are numerous reports emerging on how large amount of water is being used for makeshift helipads for ministers across the country.
The latest one to be added to the list is Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu, who was addressing a public meeting in Anantpur on Thursday. About 20,000 litres of water was used for the helipad where the Chief Minister’s helicopter had landed, along with that of other VIPs, says this report by NDTV.
Ironically, CM Naidu led a gathering in taking a pledge to save water in the drought hit district of Andhra Pradesh.
Four tankers with nearly 5,000 litres of water were poured in the area to prevent a dust-storm when the VIP helicopters landed, the report adds.
However, it’s not the first case of using a huge amount of water for helipads. Two days ago, thousands of litres of water were used for preparing a makeshift helipad for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav who visited drought-affected Lalitpur area on Tuesday.
Before that, 10,000 litres of water was wasted for a temporary helipad at Belkund village of Maharashtra just before the visit of relief and rehabilitation minister Eknath Khadse.
