These are not the best times for Bollywood’s three big Khans, or so it seems. After Aamir Khan’s bashing on the social media for his remarks on ‘intolerance’, it is now Shahrukh and Salman who have landed into legal trouble for hurting religious sentiments of a community.
Recently, a court in Meerut accepted a plea by Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha against Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan and a private TV channel for purportedly showing the actors inside a temple wearing shoes during a reality show, the PTI reported.
The court has fixed the date for hearing on January 18.
What’s the controversy?
In a promo aired on Colors for the show Bigg Boss 9 for almost a week in December, the two actors are shown inside a Kali temple. The promo was aimed at recreating Salman and Shah Rukh’s brotherhood from the movie Karan Arjun, in which a Kali temple played an important backdrop. Too bad for them, they were wearing shoes!

Bharat Rajput, president of Hindu Mahasabha’s Meerut unit, said that he had written a letter to the SSP and the district magistrate of Meerut on December 23 and also sent an email to the channel over the issue.
He alleged that no one should enter any religious place with their shoes on and airing it on TV was insensitive, as it hurts religious sentiments of people.
Rajput said, when the channel didn’t respond and the administration or the police didn’t take steps over the issue, a petition was filed at the court of CJM Sanjay Kumar Singh against the channel, the show’s director along with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan.
“I was shocked to see that a scene with Shahrukh Khan and Salman Khan inside a Kaali temple with shoes on was broadcasted on the national TV for a long time but no one took any action against it. The day the episode of that promo was to be broadcasted, I sent an email to Colors, but still the episode was aired. There was no option left but to file a case against the Bollywood stars,” said Bharat Rajput, district president, Hindu Mahasabha in a press conference on Friday, as reported by The Times of India.
