The drought situation in different parts of India is worsening and the Bombay High Court had responded to a PIL by saying that there would be no matches in Maharashtra after April 30.
Now veteran actor Nana Patekar, who also came forward to help farmers financially earlier, has lashed out against the Maharashtra government over the issue.
The prominent actor said, “What purpose would it serve if only IPL matches are shifted out. As long as pitches are maintained in the summer season, water will be wasted,” and also accused Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis’ regime of simply creating a media frenzy rather than finding a solution.
He added,
“Just because people are supplied water irregularly now, they have began speaking about drought. When farmers come to cities, don’t treat them like beggars. They are being forced to migrate for survival.”
Nana Patekar said that “we have failed our farmers” and criticised politicians for failing to chalk out a long term plan for drought hit regions of Marathwada, Osmanabad, Latur and Aurangabad.
The national award winning actor said, “IPL should not have been conducted in the state at first place. This shows the priority of those ruling us.”
