Savitri resides in Karundi village of Chattisgarh’s Bastar district. She got her IIT coaching through ‘Prayas Programme’, a coaching initiative of the state’s tribal welfare department and scored an all-India ranking of 1,135 in the exam, reports Deccan herald.

She was the only one to ace the JEE Advanced level, among nine other students who cleared the mains exam with her.

Savitri’s parents work at a farmland and strive hard to facilitate education to their children – five daughters and a son. Savitri, who has now become an inspiration for other children in the village, credits her success to her teachers who motivated her to pursue her dreams.

She wishes to do her engineering from IIT Kharagpur.

‘Prayas Programme’ was launched by Chattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh in 2010 for imparting coaching along with regular studies to meritorious students from Left Wing Extremists (LWE) districts at high secondary level.
