Twenty-six years ago, the situation in Kashmir exploded and with it begin a series of tragedies among which several died and many more went missing. Among these was a thriving population of Kashmiri Pandits who were forced to leave their homeland due to violence and persecution.

As incidents of violence increased exponentially, anyone against the militants was perceived as a spy, Pandits in Kashmir were forced to choose between ‘getting killed or a life in exile,’ says veteran actor Anupam Kher in this heartfelt video.

Years later, the Kashmiri Pandits living as refugees for generations are still waiting to go back to their homes, while successive governments failed to ensure their right to return.
