Three Teen Girl Bombers Blow Themselves Up In Nigeria Killing 9

Nigeria has seen a spike in suicide bombings, and shockingly many of them are being carried out by teenage girls. The pattern has come to the fore again with three teenage girls, aged 10 to 15, detonating themselves, killing close to nine people, reports Al Jazeera.

The bloody attack in the Benisheikh district injured 24 people, and are reminiscent of similar bombings by teenage girls in July.

Attacks by young girls in Cameroon and parts of Nigeria, killed 12 people in November.

A Nigerian army official told allAfrica that, “While the Civilian JTF was in the process of screening the suspect following the necessary drills and precautions, the carrier detonated the IED, that led to the death of 9 people while 24 others sustained various degrees of injuries.”

The phenomenon of young girls being used as suicide bombers by Boko Haram has raised security concerns in the continent.

A similar bombing was carried out by girls in Chad earlier this month.

The Daily Mail also reported earlier that the girls involved in the attacks might be those kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014, as officials said that girls may have been indoctrinated or coerced into carrying out attacks.
