Three Female Medical Students Kill Themselves By Jumping Into A Well In Tamil Nadu

Unable to bear constant harassment and torture by the college management, three female medical students, allegedly committed suicide. The incident happened in SVS Medical College of Naturopathy and Yoga Sciences in Villupuram, about 200 km from Chennai where the undergraduate students killed themselves after jumping into a farm well near their college.

The deceased, who were second year students, have been identified as V Priyanka, T Monisha and E Saranya. They tied themselves with a dupatta (scarf) before jumping into the well. Police officials along with the help of fire brigade personnel, retrieved the bodies from the well which have been sent to a government hospital for an autopsy.

A suicide note received by the police has allegedly blamed the college management and in particular it’s chairperson. It also talks of “extortion by the management and how students are fighting for even basic amenities”. “We have not made any arrests yet. We are investigating,” District Superintendent of Police Narendra Nair told NDTV.

“It is a murder, not a suicide. We want a post-mortem done in Chennai, not a Villupuram hospital,” said the father of one of the girls as per a report by NDTV
