TN Youth Who Had Returned After Fighting For ISIS Is Now Helping Indian Agencies

A Tamil Nadu youth who was recently arrested after he returned from his stint with the Islamic State in Iraq is now helping Indian agencies in the investigation.

The 31-year-old Subahani Haja Moideen, also known as Abu Meer is coordinating with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in helping them understand everything about Islamic State, ranging from their training methods and religious courses to funding, reports The Times of India.

Moideen, who is originally from Kerala, was arrested from Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu) a few days back. He had fought with the Islamic State between April and September in 2015. However, he couldn’t tolerate the violence committed by the IS fighters. He later suffered a serious knee injury and after serving a 40-day imprisonment, was allowed to return to India.

Investigating agencies believe that his arrest is till now the biggest catch and he has been charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

On October 3, the National Investigation Agency had also arrested six persons from Kerala for allegedly plotting terror attacks in the country during the agency’s ongoing investigation into the disappearance of 21 people from the state who are believed to have joined the Islamic State (ISIS).
