Bhumata Brigade chief Trupti Desai announced on Saturday that her group is going to enter Haji Ali Dargah on April 28, that is Thursday.

“Our group would be going to Haji Ali Dargah on April 28,” Desai told ANI.

This comes after Mumbai-based Muslim political leader Haji Arafat Shaikh, who joined the Shiv Sena after leaving Maharashtra Navnirman Sena in 2014, said that Trupti Desai would be hit with slippers if she tried to enter the Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai.

Shaikh had told ANI, “Islam does not allow women to touch the mazar-e-sharif in a dargah. We strongly condemn what Trupti Desai is saying. We won’t allow her to enter the inner sanctum of the Hazi Ali Dargah. I will be the voice of my religion and will not allow her to touch the mazar-e-sharif.”

Reacting to the statement, Desai told ANI, “This kind of threat is wrong. Everyone has the right to protest in a democracy. He has insulted women.”

Desai has earlier led the movement for women’s entry into prominent Hindu temples including the Trimbakeshwar temple in Nashik and Shani Shingnapur temple in Ahmednagar.
