India’s second mission to the moon, Chandrayaan-2 successfully launched on Monday. With this, India has gone down in history with its remarkable achievement of sending its most ambitious lunar mission to date.

The mission has been special for a variety of reasons. Despite the last-minute glitch, scientists worked round the clock to get it working and ready for launch on Monday. Apart from being a super ambitious project, it has also been made with a shoe-string budget. It costed less than the movie Interstellar, if we were to put things in perspective here.

What makes it even more special, are the women behind this mission, whose incredible achievements will go down in history. For the first time in India, an inter-planetary mission has been spearheaded by women.

Meet Muthayya Vanitha and Ritu Karidhal, the two female scientists responsible for fuelling India’s successful Chandrayaan-2 mission.

Twitter hailed these iconic scientists, whose tireless work has put India on moon.

While this entire mission was a step up for India, it was much bigger step for the Indian female scientists.
