#PrayForTheAmazon Trends On Twitter As The Rainforest Continues To Burn At A Record Rate

Srishti Magan

Over the last few days, Amazon – the largest rainforest in the world – experienced a record number of fires. The devastation was so extreme that it could even be seen from space.

Amazon, which is home to nearly three million species of plants and animals, has experienced forest fires so intense that it caused a blackout in the city of São Paulo – which is actually 3300 kms away.

Even though the forest fires have been going on for some time, there has been little to no media coverage on it and even Brazilian authorities are yet to take appropriate action. Consequently, people took to Twitter to express their concern over such a vital loss to the environment:

Amazon is literally the ‘lungs of Earth’, and it is imperative that appropriate measures are taken, and soon.
