Two Passengers Injured After 10 Coaches Of Jhelum Express Derail Near Ludhiana

Ten coaches of the Jhelum Express derailed near Ludhiana early on Tuesday, leaving two passengers injured. 

No casualties have been reported.

“Ten coaches of the Jhelum Express derailed between Phillaur and Ladhowal at 3:05 am,” Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ferozepur Anuj Prakash said. 

He said the train was coming from Jammu and going towards Pune when it went off the tracks. 

Two passengers have been injured in the incident, he said.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Phillaur, Subhash Chander, said that bogies from S-1 to S-7 and the pantry car were severely damaged. The train had had 24 bogies in total, reports Chandigarh Tribune.

According to an Indian Express report, four trains have been cancelled as a result of the derailment. 

The front portion of the train including the engine and 8 coaches has been shifted to the next station while the rear coaches have been moved to Phillaur. 

Railway authorities are making alternate arrangements for the passengers to continue their journey. A high-level enquiry has also been ordered into the incident.
