A video of Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das getting his feet washed by women has created quite a stir ever since it has surfaced online.

In the video, uploaded by ANI on July 7, the CM can be seen getting his feet washed by two women on the occasion of Guru Purnima Mahatosav in Jamshedpur on Friday.

The video, however, did not go down well with women activists who have criticized the leader for participating in such a practice.

TOI reported that Abha Sinha, President of the women’s wing of Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee has even sought an apology from him.

“That is unacceptable. This practice is not acceptable and is not becoming of a CM,” Bengaluru-based activist Brinda Adige was quoted as saying by NDTV

Defending the act, State BJP spokesperson Pratul Sahdeo informed TOI that the episode was being ‘blown out’ of proportion.

“The washing of feet was part of a traditional welcome, which is common in Jharkhand’s tribal culture.”

Condemning the statement, tribal activist Dayamani Barala responded that there was no tribal festival in a place of worship where everyone is equal, the CM is also expected to behave like a common man.
