Wife Accuses IPS Officer Husband Of Beating Her Up & Torturing Her Like An ‘Animal’ For Dowry

It is shocking to know that dowry deaths are still a fact in this country, even more shocking when ‘educated’ people are the ones practicing it.

A 32-year-old woman has accused her IPS officer husband of physically assaulting her ‘like animals’ over the past several years on the pretext of dowry, among other things.

According to TOI, she walked into the police station in Meerut with bloodshot red eyes and a swollen face to file an FIR against her husband.

Along with other multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, Nigam was also booked under section 307 (attempt to murder).

IPS officer Amit Nigam is currently posted as assistant commandant in sixth Nagaland Armed Police Battalion (NAP) and is deployed in Delhi.

Reportedly, the victim also claimed to have been physically and mentally assaulted by her in-laws as well for the same reasons. She said,

Eight to ten days after the marriage, my in-laws started demanding Rs 1 crore as dowry. They started treating me like animals. When my husband was transferred to Dimapur in Nagaland, I accompanied him. But, he also started beating me over dowry.

The report further adds that the victim was last beaten up by her husband at their Gurugram residence after which she left to go to her parents’ house in Meerut.

The office of the UP DGP has taken this into account and have assured that the Meerut police will take the necessary action.

Meerut SSP Nitin Tiwari said,

FIR was filed soon after the victim approached us. There are grave charges against the accused who is a serving IPS officer. Our investigation has begun and law will take its own course irrespective of who the offender is
