One of India’s biggest Olympic medal hopes and world number 5 archer Deepika Kumari is suffering from a shoulder injury that is threatening her Rio hopes.

Deepika is the biggest name in the women’s archery team, which also has Bombayla Devi and Laxmi Rani Majhi. If she doesn’t recover on time, then Rimil Buriuly will replace her.

A Hindustan Times report says that Deepika has travelled to Mumbai to consult a shoulder specialist at the Breach Candy hospital. Her treatment is focussed in the bicep tendon and this is apparently a long-standing problem.

The report added that she could barely hold her phone in her right hand due to the discomfort.

“It is a slight trouble on my right shoulder, but I’ll be okay soon,” she revealed.

With the Olympics just a month away, Deepika continues to train despite the pain. We can only wish her the best of luck.
