RTI Query Reveals Govt. Spent A Whopping Rs 15.87 Crore On Yoga Day SMSes!

In a recent news story, it was reported that the Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy a.k.a. AYUSH Ministry, spent a total of Rs. 15.87 crores for sending bulk SMSes to the general public in order to spread awareness about International Yoga Day.

Yoga Day is celebrated on 21st June every year worldwide, after the date was declared so by the United Nations General Assembly on 11th December, 2014.

This information came to fore because of an RTI filed by one Mr. Parag Patel, an Amdavad resident, who made it clear that he supports the initiative taken by the PM to promote Yoga, however, the huge amount spent on the SMSes, he felt, were unnecessary.
