Sumit Verma popularly known as “The Crazy Sumit” for the objectionable prank video on YouTube on Friday told police that women he kissed in the video were aware of it and had consented to be part of the prank, reports Indian Express.

Sumit was detained by Delhi police on Friday over a prank video in which he was seen randomly kissing girls and running away. The video posted on YouTube, amid an ongoing outrage over New Year Eve mass molestation in Bangaluru, had invited a lot of flak on social media prompting the authorities to look into the matter.

Sumit told police that he decided to make a video of him kissing unsuspecting women and running away in December. He got his friend to shoot the video for him and asked some women to participate in it. He has claimed that women knew about the kissing part.

Earlier this week, the cyber crime cell of the crime branch had lodged a case against the accused under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC and Section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of IT Act.

Sumit told police he got the idea making prank videos three years ago when he met with an accident and was bedridden for two months. He said he used to watch prank videos on YouTube and wanted to make one of his own.

Sumit has made close to 40 such videos so far.

Sumit, whose YouTube channel goes by the title ‘The Crazy Sumit’, is active on the social media platform since 2015 and posts prank videos. He has over 1.5 lakh subscribers. After the backlash on the “kissing and running” video, he had issued an apology through another video which was also taken down.
