Controversial Islamic televangelist  Zakir Naik who has been under criticism for allegedly influencing terrorists has now issued a Rs 500 crore defamation notice to Arnab Goswami and executives of the Times Now news channel for damaging his reputation.

According to a report by India Today, Naik’s advocate Mubin Solkar, says that Goswami, in his show “The Newshour Debate” telecast on several dates earlier this month, made “false and defamatory statements” against Naik which “tarnished and damaged” his reputation in the eyes of the general public.

Goswami has been a vocal critic of the Islamic preacher and has been demanding his ban in his talk shows.  Here is a look one of the videos from his show:

After the recent terror attacks in Bangladesh, Naik who preaches on Peace TV channel, has been under scanner for allegedly influencing terrorists. He has, however, rubbished all the allegations and has been maintaining that he has never propagated terrorism in the name of Islam.

Post the Dhaka attack, the government of Bangladesh had banned his channel due to his “provocative” speeches which inspired the terrorists.
