Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa’s health continues to be in a critical condition on Monday after the 68-year-old leader suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday night.

According to a recent statement by the hospital’s chief operating officer Subbiah Viswanathan, the CM is under close observation and in “very critical” condition.

ECMO is short for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation, a device that assists the heart when it unable to oxygenate the body on its own.

Silencing rumors, Apollo also clarified that no surgeries have been done on the Chief Minister since morning.

Jayalalithaa, who was admitted to the hospital on September 22 after complaining of dehydration and fever, has undergone intensive treatment since then, with a special team of doctors attending to her.

Just before the cardiac arrest, doctors had announced that the Chief Minister was recovering.
